P A I N T I N G S B Y D A V E

I've recently started teaching myself to paint with watercolors. Prior to these efforts, I don't think I've painted since middle school art class, so I'm pretty happy with what I've managed to do so far.

first_sunset.jpg (36846 bytes)

This was my first attempt.
The subject is a particularly nice sunset I saw from Seahurst Park about 6 months earlier, and I just painted from memory and made it up as I went along.

first_sunset_digital.jpg (29089 bytes) This is another version of the same sunset in the last picture, but this time I created it in PhotoShop.

Mt_Rainier_from_above-800.jpg (99772 bytes) This is Mt. Rainier as seen from the south. I based the painting on a picture I took just after takeoff on a flight to New York. There was a low overcast, which made painting the background easier. ;o)

anna_wash-0800.jpg (62750 bytes) This is our tabby cat Anna taking a bath.

hillhouse_wall-800.jpg (74027 bytes) This is a bench set into the outside wall at Hill House, my Cousins' house in England.
self-candle-600.jpg (18208 bytes) This is supposed to be me. I could have done worse. I guess it looks more like me than anyone else. Did I mention I can't paint faces?
ScottAndRainier_600.jpg (19950 bytes) This is my first attempt at painting with acrylics. That's Scott and Mt. Rainier in the background. I based it on this picture.
HanaBridge1_600.jpg (28945 bytes) This is the bridge over the middle of the Seven Sacred Pools near Hana on Maui.
lighthouse-1000.jpg (270810 bytes) A rare occurrence... This painting is completely from my imagination instead of from a photograph. I think it's one of my best so far.
A larger version is available here.
beachHeron_600.jpg (22559 bytes) I painted this for a friend's birthday. It's a scene with a heron at Seahurst Park.
CherryMountain.jpg (41009 bytes) I painted this for a friend's present for Christmas 2001. It's painted on one of those pre-stretched canvases without staples so you can paint the sides. The side panels in the picture are the sides of the canvas.
CherryMountain.jpg (41009 bytes) I painted this one in early January, 2002. It's not of anything in particular, but I was thinking of a beach on Long Island when I painted it. There is a larger version of it here.
crescentBeachSurfA_0600.jpg (9318 bytes) I recently got my watercolors back out, and I painted this. It's based on this picture I took near Crescent City, CA in November 2000. There is a larger version of it here.
This picture doesn't capture the colors quite right, so I'll try to get a better one soon.
